It was the 23rd of September 2019 and my wife and I were just leaving to set off on our belated honeymoon. When we were travelling to the airport in the taxi, I had so much on my mind, I was getting nervous over a project(s) and my thoughts were in a million different places. Then I realised that while my mind was elsewhere, I did not want to miss memorable moments with my wife. It really was not a great morning.

So then I got a grip of myself and we started talking about the trip itself, where we were going to go when we got there, what we were going to do and how much of a memorable time we were going to have.

So I then realised I needed to get back into the present moment and instead of thinking about the things that I had to do, instead spend my time away being present with my wife and it was a truly amazing time.

So it brought a moment to my mind, I could either have had a stressed day or have an amazing, wonderful day.

I chose the amazing day.

So for the rest of the day(s) I made sure that they were the best ever, and they were, all from simple tiny things that don’t seem like much but they made all the difference in the world.

Now I am going to list some methods that you can use.

Do you need to follow them step by step? No. Find what methods that work for you, and make sure you take the right step forward to having an amazing day.

1. Be Present.

The past we can’t change, so there is not much point in fretting over what has happened. We can’t predict the future, so worrying about it is not going to help either. So instead just focus on the now, the present, if something is worrying you, take action, and even better, just be in the moment and live as if now is all there is. Because it is.

2. Do less.

Your schedule is looking full, and you wonder where the time goes. So, just cut your schedule in half because you don’t need to do everything on that list. Move them till next week and do less (Focus on the important-urgent) and you’ll feel less stressed. If you cut your things on your list in half, do less today, you’ll feel much better. You will thank me.

3. Just get that important thing done.

As I said in the point above, do less, but just the most important things. What I mean by important is the things that will have the biggest impact on your life (personally or career wise) over the long run.
Here is why, if you get something important done, something that will assist you in the long run (even just a small step towards a major accomplishment, it is important) and you will feel great. You will feel that sense of accomplishment. That makes any day, a great one.

4. Life planning.

How would you feel if you had complete freedom. I’m not talking about living in that mansion or flying around on a private airplane, but what would make you happy? A good idea is just pick the 4-5 most important things in your life and build yourself around them. Try to eliminate the rest if possible. So plan that perfect life and create what steps you need to get there. Schedule those steps for the next week and take that one step today. It feels awesome when you start taking action over your life and making it what you want it to be.

5. Declutter.

Even though I was in the Army, I am human and have let myself relax a little at times but this is something I still need to keep on top of discipline wise(so my wife tells me). But you know it feels so much better if you pick an area of your life to declutter and it can have a huge boost on your happiness level, well it does for me. Clearing your workspace is a great place to start.

6. Exercise.

As I am writing this, I am thinking to myself that most people will probably skip this one. But exercise is a happiness producer, so why not just go for a walk, move, get some fresh air, it will have a great effect on your day. As I am here in Bali, I love walking and taking in the scenery, the new nature, but even if your at work, still go for a walk, clear your head and calm yourself during that busy time of day. As you walk, think to yourself “How lucky I am to be alive” and “there are many opportunities and possibilities that lie before me.”

7. Focus on 3 projects.

This is a great productivity producer, focus on 3 projects that are important in your life, and focus on them solely. Try to get them completed, to the exclusion of other projects. Start today and you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish. I have some major personal goals and ever since I started doing this, it feels fantastic.

8. Listen to great music.

For me it is when I am training, I love putting in my headphones and lifting. But whatever music gets you going, put it in your iPhone, car, or while you work. It’s great.

9. Watching sunrise or sunset.

I love walking to work in the morning and watching the sunrise, it’s beautiful.

10. Spend time with a loved one.

I am coming to the end of my honeymoon with my wife and I have loved every minute. But even if it’s just for two minutes with a person that you love it’s worth it. If you don’t have a spouse or even kids, and there is someone in your life that adds value… make time out of your day to spend it with them, not just to watch T.V but to talk with them, and bond with them, it works.
